Jem Moore
has been performing, teaching and promoting hammered dulcimer for seventeen
years. He began his career by waiting tables and performing at open mike
nights at the famous Caffe Lena's in Saratoga Springs, NY, the
oldest continuously running coffeehouse in the US. Lena Spencer, mentor
to such legends as Don McLean and Christine Lavin, took Jem under her
wing, providing words of encouragement and a chance to meet and learn
from the best folk performers of our time. From there, Jem began touring
with Ariane Lydon and building
a solid reputation as a performer and musician. They appeared at many
of the most well known venues across the country and performed at major
folk festivals in the US and Canada, including The Philadelphia Folk
Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival. He has recorded 13
albums, and has appeared as a guest on many others. His music has been
heard on nationally syndicated radio programs like “Thistle & Shamrock”
and “Echoes”, and live programs like “Folk Scene” in Los Angeles.
Following an early love, dance, Jem has worked with several dance companies,
including the Second Hand Dance Company in Ithaca, NY, and “Dance
is for Everyone” from Atlanta, GA providing original music as well
as performing live. Jem has always maintained an interest in teaching
dulcimer, and he has consistently received rave reviews from his students
and festival promoters everywhere he goes. He is also fluent on other
instruments as well, including Didjeridoo, Irish Flute, Tin Whistle, and
Ocarina. Oh, yes, he’s also a professional airline pilot. |
