With one of the most unique styles in the dulcimer world, Jem Moore has been charting new ground for over 25 years.

He has tackled monumental classical pieces including the Toccata and Fugue in D minor by Bach, and created haunting, poly-rhythmic original compositions that have been featured NPR’s Echoes. His performances have included top-tier folk festivals such as Philadelphia and Winnipeg, and a whole host of dulcimer festivals around the country. Jem has recorded 15 albums and has toured North America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and he continues to inspire audiences around the world.

Starting in 1983, Jem took his first dulcimer to the open mike night at Caffe Lena's, the nation's longest running coffeehouse. There, on the same stage that had hosted performers like Don McLean and Bob Dylan, Jem began to nurture the spark that would turn into what the Louisville Courier-Journal would call "...a river of acoustic fire!"

In 1986, he joined with talented singer/guitarist Ariane Lydon, and they went on to record eight albums and perform around the country for the next ten years, including playing the mainstage at the Philadelphia Folk Festival and two appearances at the Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada.

At the start of his solo career in 1999, Jem had the unique opportunity to tour in Japan. For his opening concert, at an architectural showplace in Hiroshima called the "F-House", he performed for Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba. During the many concerts that followed, he won the hearts of fans around the country.

Over the years Jem has performed and taught at numerous festivals, including the Summer Solstice festival in Southern California, the Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia, Kentucky Music Week in Bardstown, KY, among many others.

Before a car accident damaged his knee, Jem was also an accomplished dancer. He studied ballet, jazz, modern, and performed with the Orlando Symphony in their staging of the Nutcracker Suite. After his accident, Jem still found a chance to work with dancers. He performed live with « Dance is for Everyone » from Atlanta, GA, and his music was used by the Binghamton, NY based Second-Hand Dance Company. His compositions were also included in performances by the Kanopy Dance Company in Madison, WI, and he joined them for a special live performance in 2000.

In 2001, Jem took a haitus from performing to go back to school in New Mexico, where he took a degree in Aviation, and obtained all of his licenses to be a commercial pilot. He now works with Repulic Airlines, flying 86-passenger jets for USAirways Express.

Late in 2003 Jem teamed up with an amazingly talented partner, MinTze Wu, the world’s only Taiwanese classical violinist/Irish fiddler. Their first album, Uncharted Waters, was released to rave reviews in 2007. One of the pieces on it is a composition commissioned by the Gros Morne Summer Music Festival in Newfoundland, where it was debuted in the historic Heritage Theatre at Woody Point.

Currently living in the mountains of Colorado, Jem continues to travel the world playing music, teaching dulcimer, and playing Irish flute at sessions whenever possible.
